Pratap Chandra Sarangi, the newly elected BJP parliamentarian from Odisha, today took oath as the Union Minister of State at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.


Sarangi, a RSS follower, is hailed by his supporters as “Odisha’s Modi.”

Sarangi was elected to Odisha Assembly twice in 2004 and 2009 from Nilagiri constituency in Balasore district. He had also contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Balasore constituency but faced defeat.

However, Sarangi defeated Biju Janata Dal candidate and sitting MP, Rabindra Kumar Jena in Balasore in 2019.
